Steinbeck & Shaw Cardiff
I don’t know about you all, but I feel like I don’t go out nearly as much now that I am a mum. And given that I’ve been a mum for 9 years that means I’ve been missing a lot of nights out! All this is changing now though and I am finally getting through that very young children phase and am looking forward to going out more.
The week before last, myself and some other mummy blogger friends did just that – we headed into Cardiff for some ‘mum’s me time’ and had a wonderful time! We were invited to taste the new food and cocktail menu at Steinbeck & Shaw in Cardiff city centre and we had a great time!
Steinbeck & Shaw is relatively new to Cardiff and if you are local you will remember it used to be the old Brannigans. It is a really great venue though, with a really interesting and unusual decor which always makes for a great setting in my opinion.
We went on a Wednesday night and it was just the perfect level of busy for me – plenty of people there but not overly heaving as I imagine it might get at the weekends. The staff were beyond wonderful and bent over backwards to see that we had everything we wanted. We were treated to two of the large sharing platters, the nachos and pulled pork nachos and a veggie burger for the vegetarians amongst us. There were 5 of us and there was plenty of food to go around.
The large platters cost £20 (or £16 in happy hour!) and were really nice. They came beautifully presented and the food was delicious. The sweet potato fries were a real highlight and the corn on the cob was a lovely buttery treat.
The veggie burger was really nice too and had a lovely flavour and texture. The brioche bun was right up my street. I did add a cheeky bit of ketchup though as it came plain.
The ordinary nachos were delicious, if a little hard to eat. They were quite spicy though!
As we were having a night off it would have been rude not to indulge in a few cocktails and they do have a few on the menu. In fact, their bar manager was so lovely and knowledgeable, I think he could pretty much rustle up any cocktail you asked for.
My favourite was the Disaronno Sour…a real grown up drink and I really enjoyed it! They do have plenty of other drinks on the menu too – some of the girls enjoyed the mocktails as they were driving and I noticed a great beer section on the menu that the husband would be happy with!
The new menu is now available at Steinbeck & Shaw and you can check it out here. I’d definitely recommend it as a cool place to go out for a bite to eat and a few drinks in Cardiff any night of the week.
Disclosure – we were invited to Steinbeck & Shaw to try out their new menu and the food and drinks were complimentary. I was not obligated to write a positive review and all opinions are honest and my own.
