Us mums need some time off right?! I’ve been making a point of taking some time out lately to take more care of myself. I always feel better if I look good so it is important to me to have my hair and nails looking nice, and to be dressed nicely. Don’t get me wrong, some days I don’t look my best but I always feel so much more confident and happy if I know I look good so I do try to make a little time to take care of myself.
Last week I was treated to a pamper evening at the Ken Picton salon in Cardiff Bay. And boy was it a treat! If you haven’t been there before it is really easy to get to with two car parks a short walk away and the salon looks quite small and understated from the outside but don’t be fooled – upstairs it is huge and it is a real destination salon – you could easily spend a whole day there!
I was treated to a nice cocktail at the bar (which is a permanent feature!!). Cocktails when having my hair done is the most perfect day to me! We were treated to some delicious canapes but regular customers can order food which is brought up from the restaurant downstairs if they wish.
I started off by having my hair washed before having it blow dried into big waves. The hair washing experience was something special in itself – the chair reclines raising your feet and massaging your back at the same time. The staff were really knowledgeable and asked about my hair type so they could choose which products to use – and they have a few to choose from!
I was then taken to my chair to have my hair blow dried. My hairdresser was so lovely and friendly and we chatted really easily the whole time. Sometimes I hate going to the hairdressers because I hate making small talk, but it didn’t feel at all forced with her which was great (she probably just wished I would shut up!). She did a wonderful job on my hair and even taught me a nifty little trick for blow drying my fringe straight which I have since tried at home and can confirm that it works!
I then had my nails done at their Essie nail bar. I adore Essie nail varnishes so this was a real pleasure to behold and I had a gorgeous dark red manicure – perfect for Autumn. Sadly I can’t comment on it’s staying power as I went rock climbing 3 days later which obviously destroyed it! I’m sure it would have lasted another couple of days though.
There were also make up tutorials and colour consultations going on in the evening.
I had a brilliant evening at Ken Picton and I’m so glad that they invited me to their event. The salon was everything I look for in a salon – bright, clean, friendly and with talented staff. I’d have no doubts there that I would get excellent treatment and as I’m looking to have some changes made to my hair in the next couple of weeks I’m definitely considering going there. They also offer Keratin blow drys which is something I have been looking into as my hair is so frizzy and I had some great advice on that whilst I was there too.
I made a little video of my evening there if you want to take a look it’s on my channel now, or you can watch it below.
A big thank you to Ken Picton for inviting me along for the evening and for the complimentary treatments.
