Craft Tutorial – Applique Baby Vests

This week I have been creating ideas for a new clothing range for babies and little people to put on my online shop.

I love cute personalised clothes and baby vests and decided to do some appliqué baby vests to start off with. I had seen some cute designs on Pinterest and started off with ties on vests for boys and cute hearts for girls.

To do this yourself all you need to do is trace out your design onto cardboard and cut out. Trace this design onto Bondaweb and cut out slightly beyond the lines. (Remember if your shape is a letter you will need to trace it back to front). Iron the Bondaweb to the fabric of your choice and cut out on the lines. Remove backing and iron right way round onto your vest or t-shirt. You can now sew around it to make sure it stays on. I like to use a stabiliser on the back for vests and stretchy fabrics as it make the appliqué easier. If you use a straight line to appliqué the edges of the appliqué will fray a little with washing so if you don’t want this look use a tight zig-zag satin stitch to work your appliqué.

Here are my final designs. I plan on doing lots more as time allows and expanding the range to include t-shirts and appliqué bibs too. I just need more time 🙂
