I love Cardiff Bay. I think it reminds me of being young and chilling out and having lazy weekend’s in the sun in the various bars. But now I am all grown up I have forgotten that it is still a fantastic place to spend the day with plenty to do for the kids.
This summer we spent a sunny day taking a walk along the Barrage from Penarth to the Bay. This was an experience in itself as the views are fantastic and the girls loved walking over the ‘bridge’ over the water. Halfway over is a lovely playground with sand and the girls would have played happily there for hours! Nearby is one of the Olympic outdoor gyms which I feel I should utilise more often actually. What is more motivating than a free gym in gorgeous surroundings?
We then walked into the Bay itself. There are things to do aplenty in Cardiff Bay and this weekend was a Sailing Festival so there were rides, free arts and crafts for kids, free storytelling, some great food and drink stalls and of course all the usual restaurants and cafes. There was also The Beach in the Bay set up and other activities for kids.
We kept it simple and headed to the fantastic Lightship 2000 where we sat on the top deck and enjoyed a lovely (and very reasonably priced) lunch. The girls loved eating their lunch on a boat!!
We then walked back over the barrage, making a stop at the ferris wheel 🙂 To say that Bean was loving it is an understatement! I on the other hand may be too old for such fun – queasy and scared was all I felt!!
