With summer just around the corner I am loving all the flowers everywhere. I am big flower lover and my girls love pretty flowers too. Whenever I see flowers I am off with my camera trying to capture them!
This week we were challenged by luxury silk bedding company Gingerlily to make something out of some silk flowers that they sent us. After some thought we decided to make a floral crown – the perfect accessory for the girls on summer days when floating about in pretty dresses!
It was really easy to make and the girls helped me.
First of all you will need…
* Some flowers – fresh or silk. Silk ones will last forever 🙂
* Strong scissors
* Floral wire
We measured Bean’s head and made a simple wire base by twisting the wire into a circle that fit her head. Make sure the ends of the wire are tucked in so they don’t stick into their head!
We then tied the biggest flowers all around the wire base using little bits of florists wire. We trimmed the stalks as necessary. The stems of silk flowers are made of wire so they can be bent to the shape you require but you will need a strong pair of scissors to trim them.
We then laid out the rest of the flowers to make a pretty crown. The stems were bent into a circle shape and they were tied down with small pieces of florists wire, twisted around them until they were secure. Once again, make sure all sharp ends are out of the way.
And there you have it. It really is that simple. A really cute DIY floral crown. The girls loved making it with me and deciding where the flowers went and they loved playing in the garden wearing it even more! It makes an excellent photography prop too!
Disclosure – We were provided with a little box of silk flowers and craft items in order to complete this challenge. Check out what other bloggers made on the Gingerlily Blog soon.
