Five Guys Cardiff Bay Review

On Monday night I had a rare night out with my mummy blogging friends and we headed into Five Guys in Cardiff Bay Red Dragon Centre.

I’ve been wanting to visit Five Guys ever since they came into Cardiff, first in the Brewery Quarter and now in the Bay. I am a big fan of quick, easy places to eat, especially when I have the children with me and this looked like a great option.

I wasn’t disappointed. It is quite like a posher version of McDonalds in that the restaurant is open plan, you sit where you like and you go up to the tills to be served. The restaurant is nice and clean and it was quiet on Monday evening so it had a really nice atmosphere. It is the perfect place to grab a meal if you are down in the Red Dragon centre for bowling or the cinema.

Food is reassuringly freshly made and prepared on the premises and is a really nice quality. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich, which was simply delicious. Nothing gourmet, but simple and well done. The other veggie options were vegetable sandwiches which were toasted buns filled will grilled vegetables and mushrooms, either with or without cheese. From my friends who went for this option I gathered that having it with cheese was the best choice and you might want to add some sauce too. The veggies in our party thought it would be nice if they had a more traditional veggie burger option though.

For the meat eaters there are burgers, beef dogs and BLT sandwiches. Where you see “little” burger on the menu this refers to it being one patty not two and a little burger is a decent size.

You can choose from 15 different toppings on any of these and you could have all 15 if you wanted to! I didn’t try but there was definitely something for everyone on that list!

The fries by the way were absolutely delicious! So so tasty! And they are cooked in peanut oil which is a healthier option. I’m tempted to drive down there now to have some more! They come in two types, salted and cajun and the cajun ones had a nice little kick to them. A large fries will feed 3-4 people and we found it was a really decent portion to share.

Five Guys offer refillable soft drinks, water and even sell beer which is nice when you are heading to the cinema or on a little evening out. I had a milkshake though and it was to die for! They come in lots of different flavours and combinations and you can even add bacon to it if you want to!

All in all we had a fabulous evening at Five Guys. The casual nature of the restaurant suited us as some of us had children with us, and were able to hang around for ages chatting and catching up. Great food, great company, a brilliant night!
