Getting crafty with the kids this Christmas

One of the things I love about the Christmas holidays is the time we spend together as a family, all snuggled up in our warm house relaxing and making memories.  I love using this time to get crafty with the kids and plan activities with them, usually with a Christmas theme to get us into the spirit! We end up having lots of fun and have lots of beautiful handmade decorations which we can bring out every year. I like that every year we bring out the decorations and it gives us the opportunity to reminisce about making them. I still have decorations that I made when I was little in our christmas decoration stash – a source of endless wonder for Bean!

This year I plan on making some crafts to decorate the house like homemade wreaths, hanging decorations, paper chains and window decorations. Salt dough decorations are also on my to do list – they are a great craft as they combine the fun of making shapes with the dough and also you can decorate them afterwards – Jelly Baby loves painting! As Christmas is the theme I imagine everything will be covered with a nice sprinkling of glitter! Luckily the girls love crafts as much as I do!

There are plenty of tutorials on the internet to use for inspiration, and Pinterest is great for scoping out new project ideas. Many craft shops also sell kits with everything you need to make the craft which is ideal if you are not normally into crafts and don’t have lots of supplies on hand. Hobbycraft has plenty of christmas crafts for kids and even has a 3 for 2 offer on lots of christmas crafts at the moment.

I’d also love to make our own advent calendars as I’ve seen so many great tutorials this year, although we have left it a little late! Ah well – it’s always good to have a goal for next year!

At the end we should have lots of lovely things and best of all lots of lovely memories to treasure year on year. Got to love Christmas!
