Learning to Focus

This weekend I am away on an amazing photography course being run by the lovely Sara-Jayne from Keep Up With The Jones Family. I’ve had my DSLR camera for over a year now and while it takes amazing photos on automatic, I’ve known for a while that I needed to start learning how to use it on manual so that I could really make the most of it and hopefully take some great photos.

To be honest it was all a bit too overwhelming to learn myself so I signed up to this course and have been looking for a weekend away! Yesterday I learnt so much about my camera and what it can do and today we are going to practise our skills on pretty props – I can’t wait. So while there might be lots of beautiful pictures coming up, today I am sharing quite a boring one, but it does demonstrate how I have learnt to point focus my camera and manually change the aperture – two things I couldn’t  do before! So if you notice the rocks in the picture – the middle one is in focus and I have created a foreground and background blur! Simple for many of you, but quite an achievement for little me!

I hope to have some much prettier photos for you in the future now!

  1. Rocks are still pretty, especially when you’ve captured them right. Good luck with your course, it’s something I’ve been meaning to do for a long time. I’ll look forward to seeing evidence of what else you learn.
