Most nursery schools have them now I believe … the school bear. You are tasked to take home said Bear, entertain it for the day, take lots of photos and write about his adventures in his little book and return him to school the next day where he will share what he got up to with the class.
It’s a lovely idea and the children certainly love it and I’m sure it teaches them lots of different things such as responsibility, patience, and confidence as they have to tell the adventures of the bear to the whole class. To be fair though, it is an effort for us mummies whose homework it is to fill in bear’s diary!! JB has an OBSESSION with the school bears (we have several – Iggy Iguana, Kevin Kiwi, Alun Bear and Delyth the Sheep. Every day she will give me an account of who went home with who and the excitement on her little face when she comes home with one simply makes my day.
So while they are an extra bit of work, it is so worth it to see the smiles of delight on her face as she proudly brings one out of school and proudly shows them to everyone we meet that afternoon. These are the ordinary little smiles and moments that I don’t ever want to forget.
