When I was younger I always wanted a sister. I still do to be honest. My brother and I don’t get on and I have half siblings that sadly I haven’t seen since I was a child. I would have loved to have a sister to play with, to grow up with and to share things with. I always think a sister would be like a best friend, someone to confide in, share things with and it would be amazing for my children to have a biological aunty in their lives.
When I was expecting Little Miss J we didn’t find out what we were having so we didn’t know if she was a boy or a girl. I remember Bean very badly wanted a sister so I was really pleased for her that we had a girl. Sisters – how amazing!
But these sisters have grown to be hard work! They fight, a lot! Some days it feels like they fight from morning to night. Everything is unfair, they compete over everything and it is utterly exhausting some days!
There are however fleeting moments that they play nicely for and I have a glimpse of the relationship that I hope will be in the future. They play make-believe together nicely, they do arts and crafts together wonderfully and they sit and watch the iPad together like angels!
I took this photo on a recent walk around Isabella Plantation in Richmond Park. I love how Little Miss J is looking at her big sister, adoration and laughter in her eyes. They were being cheeky and playing me up because I wanted to take a photo of them. They were loving being mischievous together! This is the photo that gives me hope. Hope that one day they won’t fight so much, that one day they will be the best of friends. Sisters by chance, friends by choice. It’s one of my greatest dreams.
