New Teletubbies Series
Can you believe that Teletubbies first came out 19 years ago? I might be showing my age now but I can remember when it came out. I was a teenager so a bit beyond it’s target market but I can remember what a big hit it was!
19 years later and Teletubbies is still going strong. In fact there is a new series being shown on CBeebies at the moment. It features all your favourite characters still but has been refreshed to make it look more modern and bright.
Baby S is nearly 2 and he has just started to become interested in TV. He will only watch a couple of short programmes as he is so active and prefers to run about playing. It is nice to sit with him for 15 minutes a day though to cuddle while he has a snack and watches something. It helps to calm him down from running about like a loon and makes sure he sits still to eat his snack!
Teletubbies is on CBeebies every morning at 7am which is a bit early for us so I put it on catch up for his morning or afternoon snack. I can imagine if you have an early riser though that CBeebies in the morning is a life saver!
Baby S loves Teletubbies. It is bright and colourful enough to really grab his attention and I think he is comforted by the familiar pattern of the show. He gets excited when the baby appears at the start as he knows what is coming! The song at the beginning is fun and really captures his attention too. The narrator speaks in a nice clear voice which I think helps Baby S to understand and learn new words. The episode we saw today featured a boat and Baby S was jumping up and down shouting boat and pointing at the TV!
I like the part where they visit a ‘real family’ in Tummy Tales and see what they are doing. For me it puts the topic of the show in a real context which I think is really helpful for learning. In fact the whole show has been carefully researched to ensure that it has developmental benefits. The show is under 15 minutes long which is the perfect time to watch when they are having a snack. I love sitting with Baby S and chatting to him while the show is on as I think that really helps his learning and understanding.
Do you remember Teletubbies from when you were younger and does your little one watch the new series now? I’d love to hear what you think of it! You can learn more about Teletubbies on their website too.
