July felt like the weirdest month! Summer holidays crept up on us from nowhere and I really wasn't prepared - I guess it felt like the children had only just gone back to school! The end of term was full of worries about rising covid cases and classes going off because of positive cases in their bubbles. To be honest, by the end I was just glad we managed to get to the end of term in one piece!
I love the summer holidays and we had some great weather in July - in fact it was really too hot for me - I think I must be getting old! This year we decided not to go on holiday abroad, it was too much stress with the changing travel restrictions and possibilities of quarantine and testing. I didn't manage to book a staycation either, prices are extortionate and availability is non existent. We also can't find a cat sitter with space! So I have signed the children up to various clubs and we have been taking advantage of some of the free activities the local council is putting on. We have also been enjoying some days out, although the weather has taken a turn for the worse now typically!
This photo was taken on a trip to Greenmeadow Community Farm, which is somewhere we discovered before lockdown. It is a lovely friendly farm where they have different activities such as donkey grooming and tractor rides and you can feed some of the animals too. There are great play areas for children and a cafe on site too. It's great value - for the 6 of us it cost £32 including 4 bags of food for the animals.
There are a couple of trails to follow, and although we didn't do them, we did go for a walk around the perimeter of the farm which was lovely and peaceful.
One of the things I have come to realise this summer is how big the children are all getting. Baby N isn't really a baby anymore, he is talking and running around without a pushchair most of the time. Next summer I don't think we'll need one at all! It's sad to be leaving behind the little children times but it is somewhat freeing too and they are great company too!
Take a look back at previous July family photos....
