Are you a fan of Kellog’s Special K? I am – I love the stuff. I actually choose to eat it for brekkie because it is yum and not just because it is good for me! So when I heard last week that Special K had changed their recipe (for the first time since 1983) I was a little wary.
Luckily I was gifted a box to try and was pleasantly surprised! The new recipe includes another type of grain making it even healthier and better for you. So…has it compromised on the taste?
The new cereal is different in texture – it is crispier and the flakes are thinner. This does mean that it takes a little longer to get soggy – great if you are like me and pour a bowl and then find a million other things to do before you eat it! Eaten dry it is also much sweeter, although this sweetness does disappear more when you eat it with milk.
Overall, it is quite a different tasting cereal to the old version, but equally nice in different ways. For me it is still yummy and I would choose to eat it for it’s taste as well as it’s health benefits.
Special K also have a free app you can download from www.myspecialk.co.uk and a two week plan you can follow and other diet and healthy eating tips and resources. I must say that I did the Special K two week challenge before I got pregnant with Jelly Baby and was very pleased with the results – and with how easy it was to do!
As I said, the Special K recipe hasn’t changed since 1983 – but I certainly have. Now this really gives away my age but check me out in 1983…
Oh for the carefree summer days of youth! And look how much Jelly Baby looks like me – crazy! (Almost as crazy as that hair!!)
This post has been written as an entry into the BritMums/Special K “How I’ve changed Linky challenge” . I was gifted a box of the new recipe Special K to try for the purpose of the review. All views and opinions are my own.
