I love buying back to school essentials. I think it reminds me of when I was a child and I really looked forward to getting a new pencil case and stationary (although I probably didn’t need them!).
That’s why I can never say no when it comes to all the little extras I have been buying over the last week. For me September is a new beginning, much like new year and I find that quite inspiring. Anyway, I thought I would share with you what I have bought for the kids over the last few days and where from in case you still have some shopping to do!

We got ours from Marks and Spencer and I am really impressed with the range of styles they had and also the quality. I managed to kit out all three of the biggest ones there in one big online order which made uniform shopping so much easier this year. Don’t they look smart in their new uniforms! I also pick up other essentials they might need new such as underwear and socks.
I picked up their lunchboxes from different places this year. Miss J’s I bought from Asda and Little Boy’s I found in Marks and Spencer, he loves Dinosaurs so this was perfect! We also got him a second one from Smiggle which will come in handy for when he leaves his in school or it needs washing.
We have a couple of water bottles which are still good to use this year but I did need a few more. I picked up these great Thermos FUNtainer ones for the younger two from Amazon which look great as they keep drinks cold for 12 hours. We also were sent a great folding drinks bottle from Smiggle which will be really handy, it’s very clever as you can roll it up smaller when it is empty so it is great for popping in their bag and refilling on the go.
Our go to shops for back to school stationary are Smiggle, Wilkinsons and supermarkets. We picked up lots of great value pens and the like in Asda and E found the pencilcase of her dreams in Wilkinsons. Miss J really loved the pencil case we were sent as a gift from Smiggle as she is Smiggle obsessed! I must admit I quite like it too, it has a fun design and lots of cool little pockets to hide things in!
We ended up getting our shoes in Schuh and Clarks this year. Miss J chose Lelli Kelly shoes and Little Boy found some Kickers that he liked. E’s came from Clarks and it was only the second shoe shop we went into which felt like a miracle. She is so fussy with shoe shopping so I was glad she found something sensible that she liked.
I haven’t actually bought any school bags this year as the ones we have from before are still in good condition. They were from Cath Kidston and Costco if you are looking for good quality, good looking bags that last.
The same goes for coats, we haven’t needed to get any new this year because the ones we bought last year will last for another. This is one of the reasons I believe in buying something a little more pricey if it is good quality. Brands I’d recommend for coats are Joules, Next and Marks & Spencer.
Have you done your back to school shopping yet?
