Breakfast at Jamie’s Italian Cardiff
Breakfast is my favourite meal and the absolute favourite meal to eat out with my family. My kids are really fussy eaters but they eat really well at breakfast time so it’s our most relaxed meal out.
Jamie’s Italian opened in Cardiff a couple of years ago and has been hugely popular ever since, and it’s easy to see why with it’s cool interiors, outside seating and central location it’s the perfect spot for a meal in the city centre. We were invited there a couple of weeks ago to try their new breakfast menu and we were really excited to visit!
We parked in the nearby St David’s Centre car park and it was a short stroll to the restaurant. The restaurant is has a lovely interior and the girls loved being able to see the lady making the coffee in the middle! We bagged a window seat and watched the people of Cardiff stroll by while sipping our coffee and perusing the menu.
The menu is quite limited and I must say that I was disappointed not to see more lighter, sweeter options on there, especially for the children. We love to have pancakes or granola and yoghurt for breakfast and I think these would make a great addition to the menu. It was really nice to see my favourite avocado on toast and also a specially thought out vegetarian cooked breakfast though.
I ordered the Veggie Monty and my husband ordered the Smashed Avo on Toast with a poached egg and bacon. To be honest there wasn’t anything on the menu that my children would eat (they are vegetarian and fussy) so we just ordered them some toast and juice.
The food arrived quick enough and was absolutely delicious. The Veggie Monty was a real treat because it’s so rare to find a purpose made vegetarian breakfast. The potatoes and hash browns were a real highlight for me. It was a really decent portion too and I couldn’t finish it all.
My husband’s Avo on Toast was reportedly just as delicious, although he felt his portion was a little on the small side. If he’d ordered it without the extra egg and bacon he would have been left hungry so that’s something to bear in mind.
Breakfast options range from £8.95 to £4.95 which is great value for a top notch city centre breakfast. It’s just a shame that their menu isn’t a little bigger with some better options for children. It’s great for adults though.
When we were finished we had to rush off to swimming lessons which was a real shame as the shops were calling me! We’ll definitely be back for breakfast before a day of shopping, without the kids!
I made a little video of our weekend and you can see our visit to Jamie’s at the beginning if you want to see more…
