When you’re a busy parent, rushing here and there after children as well as organising yourself and getting work done, you do really need to have your eye firmly on one or two special things to get you through the week.
That might be some take out and a bottle of wine on a Friday night, once the children are in bed. It might be a relaxing soak in the bath with a good book and some natural lighting in the form of candles. But if those candles are picking out broken tiles, mildew around the bath and a bathroom that’s seen better days maybe it’s time you treated yourself to a new one.
Shelving and Small Improvements
If replacing the whole bathroom suite sounds like a step too far, then you can make some seriously good improvements with just a few little touches.
That bathroom cabinet that’s been there since you moved in can go for a start. Think about replacing old cabinets with new floating shelves cut into differing lengths or placed at different heights around the bathroom. Reclaimed scaffolding is an excellent option for this and that rustic touch can look very effective.
Similarly, if you’re not planning on replacing your sink then how about just the taps and the plug. A high pour feature or brass instead of steel can make a real difference to the look of the bathroom, adding a touch of Victorian nostalgia about it.
If there are elements of your bathroom where replacing them is unavoidable, shop around for a good deal at salvage yards or online bathroom supplies.

Accessories
Those crispy towels and the bath mat that’s seen better days, they need to go. Treat yourself to some new fluffy Egyptian cotton replacements and reinvent the colour scheme with a new bath mat that matches the blinds across the window and your new shower curtain.
If you’re feeling bold you might even think about theming your bathroom with a seaside feel or some driftwood inspired art that can give your bathroom a unique look. Shells also make fine accessories, dotted here and there.
Add in a few candle holders and some new fragrances for your bathtime bubbles and you’ve given your bathroom the perfect makeover, for the fraction of the cost of replacing the whole lot.
When you work as hard as you do, you deserve to sink into a blissful bath that doesn’t leave you feeling more stressed than when you got in. Say goodbye to boring taps, old cabinets and bathware that’s no longer fit to use and hello to a bathroom that’s designed by you. Put your personal touch on it with those little touches like artwork straight from the beach, taps and light switches that replace those dull stained ones and a mirror that gives your room space and light.
Then all that’s left for you to decide is which book to take with you as say goodbye to a busy week and hello to ultimate relaxation.
