TV beds position your TV around 6ft away, giving you a prime viewing position for streaming and gaming. Best of all, the footboard hides the TV when not in use, de-cluttering your bedroom and protecting your TV from damage.
If you’re looking to buy a TV bed, this zero-fluff guide covers choosing a TV bed with advice from the experts over at Bedstar.
Let’s jump in!
Watching TV in bed is one of life’s little pleasures, made even better with a TV bed.
Sizing up for the bed
TV beds come in double, king, and super-king sizes, but this only denotes the compatible mattress size. It doesn’t account for the extended length and width of the TV bed necessary to accommodate the TV mount and controls.
The bottom line is that TV beds are longer and wider than regular beds, so you must measure your bedroom to determine the maximum acceptable dimensions. This will ensure everything fits without hiccups.

Some TV beds, like the Star TV Val, include a 32” TV, but most require you to supply one.
Double, king, and super king TV beds can typically accommodate a TV up to 43”, but some will only accommodate up to 38” or 32”.
After sizing up your acceptable bed frame dimensions, you must determine your TV size, and you can then narrow down your product search.
A common mistake is mixing screen dimensions (diagonal measurements) with physical dimensions. You need to determine the TV’s depth, width, and length and use these physical dimensions during compatibility checks.
Note that although a TV that is only 32” sounds too small, it will only be around 6ft away from you, which is the optimal viewing distance for that size. A bigger TV is not necessarily better at such close distances.
Do you want surround sound?
Unless you buy a TV bed with built-in speakers, you will be stuck using your TV’s speaker or a Bluetooth soundbar for audio.
While most people do fine with TV audio or a Bluetooth soundbar, a TV bed with speakers like the Kaydian Design Titan delivers superior audio.
TV beds with speakers typically have 4.1 surround sound (like the Kaydian Titan and Star TV Parfame). In addition to high-quality audio, having in-built speakers means no cables or fuss when it comes to your audio feed.

Do you need storage space?
Most TV beds have a side compartment for a Sky box or games console, which lets you hook up hardware without occupying bedroom space.
But what if you need storage for bedding, shoes, games, and other bits and bats? Then you want a TV bed with an ottoman base.
Ottoman TV beds have a side-opening, lift-up mattress platform with space underneath for more bedding and shoes than you can throw a stick at.
Alternatively, you can get TV beds with drawers, such as the Pandora TV bed. Whichever takes your fancy, you can’t put a price on bedroom storage.

What’s your budget?
TV beds start from around £800, with prices up to £3,000 for luxury models with surround sound. Spending more means extras like speakers and Bluetooth connectivity, but it doesn’t necessarily mean a better bed for your lifestyle.
If you want a TV bed with electronic controls, the Birlea Plaza costs £769 for a king and is exceptionally well made with luxury fabric.

If you want speakers and have a budget on the lower end, the Star TV Eston is a fantastic option with 2.1 surround sound costing only £1,199 for a king.
If you have around £1,500 to spend, the Star TV Ardor has a sub-woofer, sound bar, dual headphone sockets, Bluetooth, and USB charging ports.
The bottom line is you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a fantastic TV bed, although stretching your budget will get you some tasty extras.
