It's our second day of homeschooling and it's still going reasonably well. Our little routine is working quite well and it's quite nice having the little people at home!
After Boris Johnson's announcement yesterday that we are in more or less lockdown we sat down and told the children about the current situation. They are still taking it quite in their stride. I know that other parents have chosen to hide the situation from their children or play it down, and while I have no criticism of that, it's not the approach that we have taken. I believe that honesty is the best policy so we haven't hidden anything from them. I believe that they need to know exactly why we are staying away from people and why we have to be really careful with not wasting food.
So today we started our day with our one walk, we stayed local and kept away from anyone we saw, not that we saw many. We went out quite early and came back in time to do the Joe Wicks PE workout - which was great for me too! We then cooled down with half an hour of reading which was the perfect lead into our hour of academic time.
After academic time we spent some time baking vegan chocolate chip muffins before breaking for lunch and free time. I think the free time is really important, today the children played lego and they got on really well. I was able to get some jobs done around the house too.
I did spend a large portion of today feeling really stressed about food though. A week or so ago I had the foresight to set up three delivery slots with different supermarkets and the first was for today. When it came through half of the order was missing and a lot was substituted. It's really so stressful worrying about whether we are all going to have enough food and worrying about visiting supermarkets. We have our fresh food delivered by the local greengrocer and he has been inundated with new customers so while he usually arrives first thing in the morning he didn't turn up until the afternoon which left me feeling panicked. I tried this evening to set up a couple more delivery slots for a few weeks time but there is no availability with any supermarket. It's definitely really worrying me.
We finished the day with some learning on the Mac and iPad using Mathletics and Reading Eggs, followed by a kick around with the ball in the garden. I bought Miss J a netball hoop to fix to the wall as she is missing her netball club but we didn't have the right size drill bit so we need to wait for one I ordered to get here before we can put it up. The one saving grace I guess is that the weather has been nice so we have been able to play in the garden and enjoy our one walk of the day.
Apart from that, I'm still trying to take this all one day at a time, and enjoying the extra time with my little people. I hope you are all doing ok? Leave me a comment below, let me know how you are finding things at the moment.
