How to make a cushion
I have always made our own cushions and find that this is a really cost effective way to change part of the decor of a room.
I follow a really easy pattern so nothing complicated and you should be able to make a set of cushions in an hour!
Firstly measure and mark a square on your fabric, the size you want your cushion to be, plus one inch. So I wanted 16 inch cushions so I measured and marked a 17 inch square. Cut out the square using sharp scissors or a rotary cutter.
Next measure two pieces of fabric, as wide as your previous measurement but a couple of inches shorter, I did mine 12 inches high. Cut both of these out.
You will need to fold and iron one edge on each of the shorter length pieces of fabric and sew over, to make a neat edge.
Next place the three pieces of fabric on top of each other, right sides inside, and pin in place.
Sew all around the edge with a 1/4 inch seam.
Turn inside out and voila – there you have one cushion cover. Pop the cushion pad insert in the fold opening and there you have it. Easy peesy!
