This post is a combination of Thrifty Thursday and Crafty Tuesday!
At the moment I am loving making handmade Christmas decorations. Some people hate how Christmas comes earlier every year, but I love nothing more than snuggling up warm and pretending it is Christmas, even though it is only October!
Every year I have a theme for the Christmas decorations, this year it is shabby chic! I have already shown you some of my handmade felt christmas decorations, and here are some more!
For these I cut out shapes from some scrap fabric. These are scraps from some bibs that I was making. They don’t need to be Christmassy fabrics, just whatever you think looks good. I then hand appliquéd the shapes onto some felt, and backed it with more matching fabric sewn using blanket stitch. Grosgrain ribbon finishes the look and voila, easy decorations to hang!
I have also made quilted versions of these. For these, cut out your shapes from your chosen fabric – I chose bright Christmas Fabric to cut doves out of. I cut co-ordinating wings from another bright fabric and sewed these on using the zigzag stitch on the sewing machine. I then sandwiched a dove shaped piece of fleece between the fabric doves, fixed in some grosgrain ribbon and zigzag stitched it together around the outside. For real shabby chic effect do the zigzag stitching 3 times. These are quite possibly my favourite…
As usual, all these items are available for sale in my online shop.
