Christmas isn't about material things, we often forget what presents we were given last year but we do remember the special things that we do together as a family - the memories are always the most special thing about Christmas that we take with us. To make the run up to Christmas extra special why don't you make an advent activities calendar? Fill a reusable advent calendar with ideas for different activities each day and have fun making memories with your loved ones. I have made a free printable advent calendar activities list for you in case you need ideas - just print it out and cut out the activity you want for each day. There is even a blank page for you to print out and write your own.

We started doing an advent activity calendar a few years ago and it is honestly the thing the children look forward to opening the most - they get so excited finding out what activity we have planned for the day - even if it is quite simple it is fun to plan it together. It doesn't have to be anything expensive as an activity, I find the simple ones are the ones that they enjoy the most.
Free advent calendar activities
Here are some ideas of activities that you can do that won't cost you any extra.

- Have breakfast for dinner
- Have pudding before dinner
- Watch a Christmas movie
- Read a Christmas book
- Make a den by the tree
- Play a board game
- Play a Christmas game
- Sing Christmas songs
- Take a walk to see the Christmas lights
- Write letters to Santa
Reusable Advent Calendar
I bought the reusable advent calendar from Hobbycraft and it is beautiful and has battery lights so it glows in the evening, but you can use any sort of reusable advent calendar, you can make one or even just use little envelopes. Then simply print out your advent activities or write them onto the blank sheet, cut them out and pop them in.
Personalised activities
The beauty about this is that you can make the activities personalised for the recipient. If you have a little one you can include advent calendar activities for toddlers or if you are giving the calendar to a parent, friend or partner you will want to include advent activities for adults.
Other fill your own advent calendar ideas
There are lots of other ideas that you can include. If you have a Santa visit booked why not include this as an activity?
I also think that if you can, it's really nice to give back at Christmas so think about including activities that benefit the less well off - you could send Christmas cards to a local nursing home, volunteer in a soup kitchen or pack a bag of food for the food bank. These make great activities to benefit those most in need and you will enjoy doing something good for others.
