Well the title says it all really, I have decided to take part in the 2012 NaNoWriMo – National Novel Writing Month. This is an online driven, fly by the seat of your pants method of getting a novel written. The challenge is to write 50,000 words in a month (30 days). No mean feat.
One of my internet friends completed this last year, and she self-published her book. An amazing achievement I think, to see your own work in print.
I have always wanted to write a novel, ever since I was a little girl, and I think the only thing holding me back is a lack of self-belief and a lack of motivation. NaNoWriMo could be the solution for me. You are enveloped in a new community of other writers struggling with their word tally’s and I work quite well to targets. Let’s face it, I have so little time, a tight target is the only way I could get it done. I may not sleep next month, but hopefully at the end of it I will have a novel.
Also, you are encouraged to just write. No editing. don’t worry if it sounds funny or naff or not quite right, just write it. This will really help me get it done I think, as I am such a perfectionist that I’m always spending ages revising things as I am writing. Editing can be done later.
I have a particular idea in my head of what to write about, but no plot or plan. I am just going to wing it. Wish me luck! I’ll update every Wednesday!
