What The Ladybird Heard at The New Theatre, Cardiff

What The Ladybird Heard by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks is Little Boy’s absolute favourite book. It’s one of those books that we know off by heart without even needing to look at the words – that is just how many times we have read it! You can imagine how excited we were then to find that the live show was coming to the fabulous New Theatre in Cardiff.

Featuring two crafty robbers, one tiny ladybird and a whole farmyard of fun, the book, that has delighted hundreds of thousands of children since it was published in 2009, is now a hit musical stage show.

It’s coming to Cardiff’s New Theatre directly from the West End and will be showing during half term from Thursday 22 – Sunday 25 February before it heads off for an international tour.

If you aren’t familiar with the book, in What the Ladybird Heard Live, Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len make a cunning plan to steal the farmer’s fine prize cow. But they don’t bank on the quietest creature of all: the Ladybird, who has a plan of her own! The woolly sheep, the hairy hog, the fat red hen and the dainty dog take on the villains in an action packed 55-minute adventure full of original songs, live music, puppetry, plenty of audience participation and lots of laughs. It’s a lovely holiday treat for families with children aged three and up.

Julia Donaldson says of the show: “I love the songs, the farmer’s song at the beginning is wonderful and the lovely, lively acting set against Lydia’s [Monks] farmyard is a joy”.

What the Ladybird Heard Live plays at Cardiff’s New Theatre from 22 – 25 February. For full details and to book tickets, visit newtheatrecardiff.co.uk or call the Box Office on (029) 2087 8889.
