Learning on Holiday

I love the school holidays. No school run, no alarm clocks and no desperate mad rush in the mornings. I also believe that the school holidays are vital for children to learn skills and have fun in ways that they don’t do at school.

One half term holiday we focused on teaching Bean to ride her bike. We had sunny afternoons in the park, ice cream as rewards and mostly we had an absolute blast. No time pressures meant that we were relaxed and she was in just the perfect frame of mind to learn this new skill. It is a time that will stick in my memory – and in stick in her mind too – you know you never forget how to ride a bike!

Here is Bean showing off her new skill!

This video was taken in beautiful Wales. We are a little biased being lucky enough to live here but Wales is a fab place to come on holiday – plenty of fresh air and lots of things to see and do. For more information tweet @visitwales on Twitter or see Visit Wales on Facebook (www.facebook.com/visitwales) too.

Riding a bike is such a milestone. Took me ages to learn whereas took my son all of ten minutes. As you say, holidays are great for learning and in a fun way too. Commenting for myself @kateonthinice and on behalf of BritMums and thanking you for taking part.
