My girls absolutely love anything cute and collectable and I love more traditional toys - ones that are more hardwearing, are eco conscious and look nicer than a lot of the plasticky toys that are so prevalent at the moment.
You can imagine my delight then when we were introduced to Meegos - collectable crochet toys with a conscience. The toys are super cute come in two sizes - 5" Meegos and their 2" mini counterparts. There are 6 different Meego dogs and 12 different Meego pups to collect.
The mini Meegos are packaged in blind boxes so you don't know what you will get - you might even get a limited edition! And we all know how much our children love a blind box!
You can have a look online at My Meegos to find out each Meego's little personality and discover more about their world Megotopia.
The special thing I liked about these toys is that each Meego is handmade in Bangladesh through a workers co-operative and this is making a real difference in over 200 villages by bringing in a sustainable, regular and flexible employment. Each Meego takes 5 hours to make and the mini Meegos take 1.2 hours. The first order of Meegos created enough jobs for over 4,000 women. The company that makes Meegos has a Fair Trade certificate so you can be sure that the workers who make them are getting a fair wage.
I love supporting a great cause and bringing jobs into an area that could really use some help so I'll be on the lookout for Meegos in the shops to buy some more. I know the girls would like to find the little pug Meego Doug!
Meegos and Mini Meegos are available at selected Sainsbury’s and Debenhams stores with a RRP of £12.99 and £6.99 respectively.
