Hands up who hates the dentist? I sure do. Not my actual dentist himself of course (he is actually rather dreamy but that’s another story).
I think it stems from watching my mum sit in the dentist’s chair with bleeding gums as the dentist scraped all round them. I still have to fight the urge of the inner child in me to jump off the chair and run away when he gets out ‘that pointy thing’.
Of course I’m now a big bad grown up and I know how important teeth and gum health is. Oh and I kinda like shiny white teeth. Nothing too Simon Cowell-esq but definitely more that than yellow and black with some missing if you know what I mean.
When I was pregnant with Bean I became aware that pregnant women are entitled to free dental care, and this lasts for a year after the baby is born too. The lure of free treatment was too much and I broke my 5 year absenteeism from the dentist and have never looked back. I found a really nice dentist who is sympathetic to my dentist phobia, my teeth are now well cared for and the girls have their teeth checked with me every 6 months. I hope that I am giving them a better impression of the dentist than I got with my mum all those years ago, and that they will keep going when they are grown up and have really lovely teeth.
This month I’ve been using the new Oral-B Pro-Expert Premium Gum Protection toothpaste. It has a great refreshing flavour and I like that it helps to protect my gums. What I really like about it is that it targets all the things I want it to target – cavities, gum protection, plaque, sensitivity, enamel, tartar, whitening and breath. It is also clinically proven to prevent and reduce gum problems in 4 weeks.
Teeth and gum health is really important to us as a family and Oral-B keep our smiles looking good!
