Last month I was honoured to be invited to the Princes Trust Awards in Cardiff. I have heard about the Princes Trust before but I wasn’t aware to a full extent just how much work they do with young people in our area.
If you aren’t aware of the Princes Trust, they are a charity set up by Prince Charles which aims to help and inspire young people aged 18-30 to create brighter futures for themselves, empowering them into jobs, education and training. One of the things that really struck me about their ethos was that it was all about helping young people to help themselves. The Princes Trust offers great support, but ultimately what it is all about is just giving these young people that little kick start they need to improve their own lives.
The Princes Trust offers support in getting a job, starting a business and in education too. On the awards night we were introduced to several young people who richly deserved their awards. as they have overcome difficulties and turned their lives around.
There is so much poverty and sadness in Wales, and across the UK, young people don’t have it easy today, especially if they are from a disadvantaged background so it is fantastic that there is such a great organisation out there to help them.
I’d strongly urge you to look over the award winners – you can see a full list here. You will be humbled and amazed by their stories.
There are plenty of ways that you can help The Princes Trust. Take a look at their website for ideas to help with fundraising to even to volunteer yourself. It’s such a worthwhile cause.
