I love to encourage imagination and creativity in my girls. We read stories every bedtime together and JB in particular loves the story books that come with a sound board – she likes to press the buttons and the sounds add an extra dimension to the story and helps her to understand and pay attention to the plot too.
Not on the High Street’s Storytime Sounds App is great because it is a soundboard that can be used when reading any story – and even when making up your own. It is a free to download app featuring five different soundboards for different storytelling themes ( pirates, fairytales, lost world, space and monsters). They have also just launched an update which sees the addition of a sixth soundboard for Halloween.
To say that the girls enjoyed this app is an understatement! The interface is really easy for them to use themselves and they loved testing out all the different sounds and using them while we were reading together. It made storytime fun, lively and much more interesting for them and I’m sure they got more out of it as a result. They also loved taking it in turns with the app to use the different sounds to help them to make up their own stories which I loved as it gave them a great, imaginative play activity and me some peace to get on with a few chores! The Halloween update gives it a seasonal edge and the girls are planning on showcasing the sounds to their friends at a Halloween party with their friends on Friday.
Baby Sprout was also funnily enough really interested in the app – we used it on a long car journey to keep him from crying and it worked!! It was lovely to see his reactions to the different sounds – he was so curious even at only 3 months! The girls love to play him the different sounds now!
The app can be downloaded from the iTunes App Store for free here.
