Rock Pool – A Sherman Theatre #Review

This half term we were invited to see a performance of Rock Pool at the Sherman Theatre in Cardiff. We love the Sherman Theatre – it’s children’s shows are fabulous, really engaging and unique.

Rock Pool is a show about Crab and Prawn, who are thrown together by a huge wave into a rock pool where they survive a night and day together. The show explores their relationship in a really fun way – from Crab really wanting to eat Prawn to working hard to save Prawn’s life.

The show set up was great – there was plenty of seating for little children at the front where they could really be part of the action and the interactive aspect of the show really helped to engage them. Props were brought out of the audience seating and there was lots of real water splashing too meaning that the audience really got drawn into the performance.

The show was really funny – not just for little children incidentally – there were a few secret adult humour jokes thrown in there which is always nice!

The Sherman Theatre itself helped to make the show a great afternoon out with extra activities for children in the foyer. From dressing up to reading books to a ball pool, colouring and even an arts and crafts section where the kids could make their own rock pool head-dresses! This really added to the creative and fun experience of the show for the children and gave parents some time to enjoy the delicious coffee and cake available in the cafe!

We had an absolute ball and I would absolutely recommend an afternoon out at the Sherman to anyone.

Disclosure – we were given two tickets for the performance of this show for the purposes of this review. All opinions are honest and my own.
