On The Sixth Day of Parenting – Top Tips on Surviving the In-Laws at Christmas

Welcome to the sixth of my #12daysofparenting posts – We’re halfway there! A big hello if you have come over from Lycra Widow. We have some great prizes to giveaway – simply enter via the Rafflecopter widget below. Full details and terms and conditions can be found here.

Today we’re talking about how to survive christmas with the in-laws. Christmas with your extended family can be great, if you get on really well with them, but if you don’t or your christmas traditions aren’t the same then you can be in for trouble! Here are my top 5 tips on how to deal with it…

Make a part of the meal each – if everyone contributes something it is so much easier. Everyone can make sure they have something they like and no one person has to do all the work.

Plan your day – make sure everyone knows a rough schedule for the day and agrees to it. Then you aren’t waiting hours for a lunch you were expecting to be made for 12 o’clock.

Be respectful of different traditions – everyone has their own little traditions at christmas. Some set fire to the christmas pudding, some must watch the Queen’s Speech. Where possible try to make sure everyone feels like it is ‘their’ christmas.

Don’t drink too much. Family resentments and arguments happen when everyone has had too much to drink.

Bite your tongue. There are plenty of days to argue. Christmas day isn’t one so just bite your tongue today!

Do you have any great tips on how to cope with the holiday season and in laws?

Today my code word to enter the giveaway is Tween. Check out what Glossy Tots tips are is and add her code for another entry! Good luck!
