4 Tips to Simplify Your Next House Move

    Sep 20, 2022 by Ali · Leave a Comment

Moving a house will always be stressful, but if you're smart about it, you can reduce some of the stress. With that in mind, here are a few tips to help make the process go more smoothly.

    Start Packing Early

Once you have a moving date, you should start organising your move. Part of this involves sorting through your belongings and packing them away. The sooner you start, the less stressful this whole process will be.

Moving house is one of the best opportunities to clear your house of unwanted clutter that you can get. The more you get rid of, the less that you'll have to unpack further down the road. So sort through your belongings, ideally room by room, and figure out what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

While there are some things that you will need to keep out in the open until the day of your move, you can get a head start packing away the nonessentials as soon as possible. Make sure that you get sturdy boxes, especially for heavier or fragile items, and use plenty of packing material.

    Use Self Storage

Once you've packed a lot of your nonessentials, the chances are that you need somewhere to store them. Self-storage companies, like Kiwi Storage, are a great option. When you store your belongings, you get them out of the way at home and you make sure that they're safe and secure.

Even better, you can store furniture and other things in self-storage, which gives you plenty of room to maneuver when it comes to moving day. Then, on the day, you can simply pick up everything in storage and take it directly to your new home.

    Children and Pets

The smaller members of your household might find moving day even more stressful than the adults. While older children might be able to help, young children and pets are another matter entirely. They don't understand what's happening and will get anxious or even injured, as you can't look after them while moving boxes everywhere.

One option that works well for everyone is to ask someone to look after your children or pets for the day. This way, you don't have to worry about keeping an eye on them, and they don't get stressed out during the move.

    Get Help

Finally, moving house is an enormous job that can only go by more smoothly when you have help. It's traditional to ply friends and family with pizza and drinks to get them to help you to move, as well as hiring a truck or van for larger items. This is a good option, especially if you ask in advance.

However, another idea is to hire a professional removal company. The removal men are fully equipped and well-practiced in moving people's belongings, so it will go more quickly and smoothly. They usually even come with their own van. Whatever you choose, don't try to go it alone.
