4 Wear and Tear Maintenance Areas to Prioritise Before Selling

Everyone wants to enjoy a stress-free move and start the next chapter of their lives in a home that's ready for them. However, part of ensuring you can move on is ensuring that the property you leave is suitable for the next homeowners. While you can pack up your life, remove furniture, and give the windows one last clean, you also need to focus on some of the wear and tear that may have occurred over the years.

    Restore Walls, Windows and Doors

If you've lived in your house for a long time, you may have ignored some more common wear and tear issues because you always felt like you had time to fix them. Well, that time has now come, so you'll need to restore and stabilise any issues around the walls, windows and doors.

If parts of the house have been exposed to the elements during storms, you may need to find a Brick Pointing service to restore any damage. Likewise, old window and door frames may not be as secure as they once were. Fixing and resealing these can improve the home's energy efficiency and prevent draughts.

    Clean the Carpets

Clean carpets are the bare minimum that new owners expect from a property. Carpet fibres cling to odours and stains much more than you expect, especially if you've got kids or pets, which can give the home a funk that can be difficult to air out.

Luckily, there are many different ways to deep clean your carpets and dig out any long-lasting fragrances. You may not notice them anymore, but they will hit new owners as soon as they come in. If you don't have any carpets, you should still give the hardwood a thorough clean.

    Hardware and Fixtures

From your door knobs to your lighting fixtures, you should look at any damage or loose fittings and fix or replace them before moving out. The new owners may want to do their own thing with these areas of the house, but they might not. If you replace broken door handles and tighten the fixtures around your ceiling lights, you can make their move more comfortable.

You can also improve how the home looks, which could help it to sell quickly even if there isn't any furniture or other amenities to help people visualise their next home.

    Check For Hidden Damage

It isn't just what you can see that you need to think about. There is also the risk of hidden damage that might affect the safety of your home. There are some small signs of big problems that you must fix before selling your property, as you don't want to move out under false pretences.

If you're unsure how to identify major hidden issues, such as dampness or structural problems, a home inspector can visit and point out any issues that may make the property unsafe for the new owners.

    Fixing It Up

Fixing up your property before selling and moving out doesn't need to be an intensive job, but it's still something you should consider the ensure the new owners can move in without any problems. These tips can help you make the house safe and stylish, meaning whoever takes over the property can settle in easily, just like you did.
