Fun Things to Do on Vacation with Kids: Planning an Unforgettable Holiday

    Jul 7, 2024 · Modified: Jan 31, 2025 by Ali · Leave a Comment

Vacationing with kids comes with lots of challenges compared to planning a trip with your partner or friends. However, it is one of the best things you can ever do for your family. It helps make your children's childhood memorable and improves your family bond.

One sure way to ruin such a trip is to plan the vacation with a sole focus on you and your partner while ignoring what will interest the kids. There are fun activities you can consider that will interest every family member.

This article will explore some interesting and child-friendly vacation activity ideas to make your next trip fun-filled and unforgettable for your kids.

    Hit the beach

Beach vacation activities are great for children. Kids can spend time at the beach swimming, building sandcastles, and collecting seashells.

There are also lots of activities that both parents and kids can enjoy, such as beach games, bodyboarding, and surfing.

Go early and bring plenty of sunscreen, as you will need to apply and reapply often, especially after your kids have been in the water. While we're on the topic of safety, don't forget to choose the right coloured swimwear. You need to be able to see your children and black, grey or blue swimwear is a bad idea when the kids are in the water. When you choose from the Muddy Puddles kids swimwear range, you can choose from a range of colours. This will help you to keep your kids safe while they swim.

Ensure you go with hats and sunglasses for your kids to protect them from the sun. If possible, build a shade fortress to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.

    Go hiking

Hiking is both a fun and adventurous vacation activity. It helps kids build their imagination, improve their self-confidence, and also help them exercise.

You are sure to get fantastic pictures while hiking, as nature's wonders provide a superb background for your shots.

There are trails to suit all abilities, from short and easy walks to challenging hikes that lead to stunning views. For a great experience and the safety of your family, it is recommended that you hire a hiking tour guide.

Children love feeling like they are in charge. Make the hiking fun by picking a leader and rotating the position among them.

Do not get carried away by how much fun you are having. Pay attention to your kids, and take breaks often. Turn back if your kids are getting tired, cranky, or if the weather conditions change.

    Visit a museum

A museum visit is a vacation activity that provides learning opportunities for both parents and kids. It is a great way for families to spend time together and does not stress the kids much, thereby making them less cranky and more engaging as they learn something new and see some amazing exhibits.

If your kids have an interest in history or knights, look for a museum that showcases carefully curated medieval collections. Exploring these artifacts can spark curiosity about fascinating tales of the Middle Ages. For even more hands-on learning, you might surprise them with historically accurate medieval armor replicas to bring their newfound passion to life at home.

Carefully select a museum with activities specially created for kids. When doing this, consider your child's age and interests. Kids can be curious about different things including science, history, nature, and music. Fortunately, regardless of their interests, there is a museum for it.

During the visit, if you notice they are disinterested, find an interactive section of the museum where they can touch the exhibits; this can rekindle their interest.

    Visit a theme park

A theme park vacation is an amazing way to create quality family time and lasting memories for your children.

Ask your kids about what they expect from the visit to know the best activities to plan at the park. However, beyond the rides and attractions, theme parks can be educational. They feature shows based on historical events, fairy tales, and scientific concepts.

There are theme parks to suit all interests and ages. There are usually kid-friendly areas, tamer rides, and shows alongside thrilling roller coasters for adults.

Meanwhile, theme park vacation activities are not for everyone. Consider your kid's tolerance for crowds before you decide.

Regardless, it is a fun and memorable vacation experience that your child will likely enjoy if you decide to explore.

    Try mini-golfing

If you are a golf enthusiast or want to try out the game yourself, it is possible to get your kids to share in the future.

Golf offers lots of advantages for different ages. It can teach your child discipline and persistence. Playing golf teaches kids to be polite and calm. The etiquette of the game will help them learn how to cope with failure and rejection without allowing it to reduce their self-esteem.

Effective mini-golf planning includes picking the perfect course based on the age and abilities of your kids. Golf courses offer different difficulty levels; some even have features kids will find exciting, such as glow-in-the-dark balls.

Pack enough sunscreen, hats, and water bottles for everyone. It is important to remain hydrated throughout the activity.

You can also make the activity more interesting by encouraging your kids to dress up according to the course theme. Create silly challenges or mini-games within your group, like trick shots or closest-to-the-pin contests.
