How to Clean Your Garden Patio

    Jul 27, 2023 · Modified: Jul 20, 2024 by Ali · Leave a Comment

Today I'm sharing step by step instructions on how to clean your garden patio. I think most of us can agree that your garden patio is the best place to chill out and relax after a long day, especially during those warm summer evenings. However, it's likely that you've noticed your patio isn't looking as good as it once did!

Over the course of winter and spring, patios accumulate dirt and grime, which can make the tranquil area you grew so fond of during the summer months, a far less inviting space. Fortunately for you, we know exactly how to clean your garden patio and all you need is a few tools and a little elbow grease. Let's get started, so you can get back to hosting BBQs and arranging family friendly garden activities !

    Step 1: Clear the patio

The first step to learning how to clean your garden patio is to clear the whole thing down. Before you start cleaning down your patio, you're going to want to move all the patio furniture, pots, toys, and other items that may be in the way.

Not only does this ensure that you cover the whole patio when cleaning, but it also prevents other garden items from becoming damaged during the process. If you have plants that are too heavy to move, it's a good idea to cover them with a plastic sheet to ensure they're protected.

Step 2: Sweep the surface of your patio.

The next step in learning how to clean your garden patio is to sweep the surface with a stiff-bristled broom to remove any loose dirt and debris. Pay special attention to the corners and edges where dirt tends to accumulate. You may find that some of the dirt is particularly stubborn. If this is the case, gently use a scraper to remove the surface grime but be careful not to damage the paving below.

    Step 3: Apply cleaning fluid

The next step in learning how to clean your garden patio is to apply cleaning fluid to the area. It's important to use the correct type of fluid for the surface of your patio to ensure that there's no staining or damage. You may want to use a popular brand of patio cleaner such as Jeyes Fluid, or if you want to look for a more environmentally friendly cleaner, look out for brands such as PatioKleen.

Step 4: Scrub the surface (or use a pressure washer)

After letting the detergent sit for a few minutes, use a stiff-bristled brush or a pressure washer to scrub or spray the surface of the patio. For the best results when learning how to clean your garden patio, work in small sections and rinse each section thoroughly with clean water before moving on to the next section.

Be careful not to apply too much pressure, as this can damage the surface of the patio. If you're using a pressure washer, be sure to keep moving the jet spray to ensure that you do not cause any damage to the surface of your patio.

    Step 5: Rinse your patio

Once you've scrubbed the entire surface of the patio, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Use a hose or a pressure washer to rinse away any remaining cleaning fluid and dirt. Pay special attention to the corners and edges, as these areas are often overlooked and can harbour dirt and grime.

    Step 6: Let it dry

Finally, the last step in learning how to clean your garden patio is to allow the patio to dry completely before placing any furniture or other items back on it. While you're waiting for it to dry, why not check out these thrifty garden storage ideas?
