    Colab post

Dressing like a fashion icon may sound daunting and sometimes expensive, but there are a few simple tips and tricks to revolutionize your wardrobe and become one of the most stylish people you know.

    Know What You Like

The first thing you need to do is decide what you like and don't like. Are you someone who loves chic fashion, items from the iconic Australian label David Lawrence, or are you a formal-fashion type of fashion?

Knowing what you like and don't like will allow you to define your style and determine what type of looks and items you want to experiment with.

    Know the Rules

Next, educate yourself on some of the "rules" of fashion. While you definitely don't need to follow them all, they can guide you when it comes to deciding which items you are going to purchase and how you will wear them.

    Keep it Simple

One of the main things that many style icons have in common is that they often keep their outfits simple. While they may experiment with unusual cuts, colors, or patterns, their outfits remain relatively simple.

Once again, this isn't a hard and fast rule, but having the logic of "less is more" will allow you to build outfits with items that all have a purpose and complement each other.

    The Fit

One far too common mistake is buying and wearing clothes that are too big or too small. The main issue with this is pretty straightforward: when clothes don't fit you properly, they instantly look like clothes you shouldn't wear.

While this doesn't apply to everything, such as baggy jerseys, basics such as t-shirts, jeans, dresses, etc, should fit you perfectly as they instantly transform your look.

    Trends

Trends are a double-edged sword when it comes to fashion. On one side, some trends become staples of fashion; on the other, they are fleeting and don't suit most people. Therefore, don't view trends as things you have to adopt.

Instead, don't buy into every trend. Wait and see what you genuinely like and try it. This will also help you see which trends will become staples and which ones will be gone by the end of the season.

    Statement Pieces

Statement pieces are always brilliant and often more affordable way to create super-stylish outfits. A statement piece is simply a more extravagant item that you own that you pair with basic items, such as a beautiful coat that you wear over a shirt, jeans, and sneakers.

You should be prepared to spend more money than normal on these pieces, but you are buying something that is high-quality and versatile and something that you will wear for many years.

    Quality Over Quantity

Speaking of quality, don't make the mistake of choosing quantity over quality. A high-quality pair of shoes will always be a better choice than a few pairs of shoes that "just do the job." Being more picky with the items you buy will allow you to have a closet that is jam-packed with stylish items.

Regarding the price, don't overspend on items you won't wear that often, but be prepared to spend extra on those garments that you know you will wear all the time and will last for several years.

    Create a Capsule Wardrobe

A capsule wardrobe may sound a bit intimidating, but it is an incredible way to create several amazingly stylish outfits with only a few items. In short, a capsule wardrobe is a small collection of items that can all be mixed and matched together to create several outfits.

The items in your capsule wardrobe will differ depending on your taste and style, but researching different options will give you a great idea of where to start.

    Accessories

Never underestimate the power accessories have to make your outfit even more stylish. Everything from a pair of sunglasses to an eye-catching chain and pendant can take an outfit from casual to catwalk-ready in an instant.

Once again, opt for quality over quantity, as too many accessories will make you look like a window display as opposed to a style icon.

    Experiment with Bold Colors/Patterns

Stylish clothing doesn't mean neutral clothing, and experimenting with colors and patterns is a must. There are also very few rules when it comes to colors and patterns, as you can be as bold or as subtle as you want to be.

If they aren't for you, but you still want to give them a try, you can start by wearing colorful shoes, a bright shirt paired with a more neutral outfit, or something similar.

    Learn from Others

Finally, if you really don't know where to start or you are looking for inspiration, you can research what others are wearing. There are so many fashion icons in the world, covering all types of styles, body shapes, etc, that you can take inspiration from.

While there is no need to copy and dress exactly like them, it can be a good way to find new styles and looks you may not be aware of.
