Review: Summer House at Combe Haven with Haven Holidays

    Apr 4, 2013 · Modified: May 11, 2024 by Ali · Leave a Comment

This easter the hubby had week off and we never feel like he's had a break unless we go away so we booked a little 4 night mid-week break with Haven in Combe Haven in St Leonards on Sea near Hastings.

The weather was freezing - indeed it was snowing in some parts of the UK so instead of opting for a caravan we thought we would try out their new summer houses as they have central heating!

It was a great plan! The summer house was lovely and warm and nice and modern and bright. The girls shared a room (we moved one bed and put Jelly Baby's travel cot there) but on reflection it would have just been easier to hire a bed guard - they can be hired from Haven for £7 for mid-week breaks.

It had a great little kitchen with everything that you would need for a short break. It had a proper gas hob and oven and grill, fridge, microwave, kettle, toaster, pots and pans, glasses, mugs, bowls, plates, cutlery etc. We took most of our food with us as we were having a budget break and cooked all but one of our meals in there with no problems.

There was a small dining table, perfect to fit the four of us for meal times and a nice large sofa with a TV. Our only gripe was that it was only a TV and not a DVD / TV combo - and the sofa could have been comfier.

There was a decent shower and separate toilet (which was very tiny!! but ok for us).

The best thing about it was that it was WARM!! Perfect for the winter!

Our caravan was in the new Seaview Village which was really nice. Lovely gravel paths and nice little play areas for the kids to play close to your caravan / summer house. On site there is also Laser archery which we didn't try and 9 hole pitch and putt golf which we did try and had much fun!!

The rest of the park itself was on the other hand a little disappointing. It is a large park and had an indoor and outdoor pool with slide. Obviously because of the time of year we could only go swimming indoors but when the Hubby took Bean it was FREEZING. He said her lips went blue! Needless to say we didn't take Jelly baby in there and Bean didn't want to brave it again which was a shame as we usually like swimming on breaks like these.

The arcade was similar - FREEZING. The sliding doors were kept permanently open by security so coat, gloves and hat were needed even when indoors! There was great on site entertainment though which both kids loved - something for all ages and also a Burger King, Papa Johns and pub type food in Mash and Barrel if you didn't want to cook.

Overall I'd thoroughly recommend the Summer House as perfect accommodation for a small family of four like us, especially in the winter when it was nice and cosy! However, I don't think we'd choose Combe Haven as a park again. I have been to nicer Haven sites, which is a shame as if only a couple of easy to fix things were addressed there it would be great.
