Taking Your Green Efforts To The Next Level

    Colab post

Everyone can do their bit to help the environment, and in the UK, the recycling rate sits around 45%, meaning many people are already making an effort in their homes to cut down on the amount of waste that ends up in landfills. But there is still a long way to go to help combat the effects of climate change, and there's always more that can be done in your home.

Here are some of the ways you can take your green efforts to the next level, while benefiting your home too.

    Enhance your recycling efforts

Many homes are now required to recycle by their local authorities, but some people are better at it than others. While sorting your waste into recyclable and non-recyclable can help, you can do more to help the environment by sorting your recycling properly. Having different containers for cardboard, plastic, glass and paper is a great start.

Make sure you're recycling properly to make sure your efforts don't go to waste:

    Dispose of food waste properly

Food waste is one of the biggest environmental problems in the UK, and changing your approach to food can make a huge difference, both to the environment and your bank balance.

Plan ahead so you waste less food in the first place, but also think about how you dispose of it. A blocked drains plumber knows all too well the effects of food waste on household plumbing, so be sure to dispose of it properly to avoid some costly problems. Food waste caddies should be a part of your kitchen, helping you avoid the nasty blockages that can happen when people put food waste down the sink.

    Reuse more, buy less

'Out with the old and in with the new' can be a dangerous saying, especially when it comes to things like clothes and household items. It's very easy to want new things in line with the seasons, but could you reuse more of what you have? Take the time to manage your wardrobe to help you change your approach to clothes, and make a promise to buy fewer clothes in the future. Your wardrobe will be full of different outfit possibilities, so be sure to make the most of them.

    Make energy-efficient improvements

Finally, if you want to enhance your green efforts further, consider the energy-efficient improvements you can make to your home. From better insulation to solar panels, these efforts will help you improve your home and save you money in the long run. Some homes may even qualify for the Government's Green Deal, helping you to manage the cost of these improvements.

If you're already doing a lot to help the environment at home, congratulations! You're doing a wonderful thing to help our current and future generations. Keep looking for ways you can step up your green efforts to have a positive impact on the environment, and your home too.
