White And Grey Interiors: Executive Beauty Frozen In Time

When it comes to interior design, if you're in the camp of 'less is more' you should enjoy this era we're living in right now. You and others like you are ruling the roost when it comes to home and style. It's the best time ever for those that love minimalist living spaces. There are multiple evolutions to this way of thinking and philosophy of design. Just think about it, first came the postmodern design in the 60s and really took off in the 90s. The modern minimalist interiors then took the torch in the 2000s and here we are with the contemporary interior design styles. But what kind of name would you give it? The only apt title would be 'executive grey' as this is the color that is pushing white out of the way. The neutral white is everywhere, it's in every home and every room. However grey is far more sleek, mysterious, smokey, moody and cunning. It provides balance where there is none and works incredibly well with shapes, sizes and spaces of all kinds in the home.

The living room is where interior designers really rub their hands with delight because it's where the most creativity in the home can be displayed. Regarding grey living rooms , white is always the offset and because it's more powerful than grey, needs to be playing a background role only. This means that your sectional leather sofa must be in grey. Grey leather is very classy, even more so than a light tan brown. However since a sectional sofa is a very big statement, the grey brings it down to a more controlled and calm status. The aim of a grey living room with a grey leather sofa is to bring you at ease but now implore you to become lazy. An enchanting blend of autumn and early misty spring mornings, grey statement sofas are the executive's choice.

Where does the white go you ask? Easy, wherever you find smaller background opportunities, that's where the white needs to blossom. For example, white sofa cushions stand out but don't take away any of the power of the grey sofa. For your curtains, have them in a simply white or cloudy white. Both shades are a little softer than pearl or porcelain white. You don't want the white to threaten the grey in your room so balance it out with the strength of the grey shades you have gone for. The larger the decor piece, the softer the white has to be because the size and color combination will challenge the grey's dominance in the room.

Flooring is always difficult to get right because it's the largest single-piece part of the living room. An area so big, has to capture the mood of the whole room. So it's imperative that you learn about the various styles of flooring, the different materials and the colors which the wood would look best in. For example, wood types with more oil in them will do better in darker rooms as they will provide the room with more light. For a grey room, you should consider a light shade of grey rather than dark. This is purely because the executive style is to achieve beauty that has been frozen in time. Balance, delicate touches and smoothness should be the approaches you take to flooring.

The hybrid flooring in kings oak on https://www.onlineflooringstore.com.au/products/hybrid/ provide a smoky ash character to your floor. Made in Australia by Signature Floors, it's part of their Sunplank Summerville range. There are many other brands and ranges to choose from but this type of soft grey is one of the more elegant choices. Remember, your floor should provide the rest of your grey interior with a light touch support instead of overpowering it with a dark dominant tone. The grey flooring will also change tone in different lighting which is better than neutral white as it's very difficult to tame.

    Everywhere you look

It's always a challenge to implement any style that revolves around colors rather than a cultural drive. For example the Victorian Era was during the time in the UK where industry was very powerful, but it was also when the nation as a whole had the most influence in the world. Thus you saw ornate decor pieces like globes, bookcases, silver and gold were balanced with earth tones and incredibly intricate carpenters would make sublime furniture that had power and grace. Yet with two tone styles, you challenge is to be subtle. It's hard since the tones are the most prevalent in the home, so you have to become calculated.

Everywhere you look you should see the two colors balancing each other out. For example, a grey bookcase works tremendously well because most books are white. Even if the book covers are not, the pages still are. If you do have neutral white walls, then go with a grey plant vase or a grey vase to put on your display table. Grey lamp and light shades stay out of the way and remain in the background until they're needed. Their presence is only really felt when the lights are so they provide situational balance. For the dining table, if you have a white table or a glass slab, the seats should be a matte finish grey. A white coffee table should be offset with a grey fruit bowl. Little subtle things like this is how you spread your style all throughout the home.

Any two tone interior is going to be difficult to balance. You don't want one color to overpower the other, yet you have to make hard choices for the floor and the walls. Soft greys are better for flooring as they don't take away the thunder from the rest of the decor. Balance your statement sectional sofa in grey leather, with white cushions or perhaps a throw. Be creative and make the most of your accessories by bringing some into the fore and pushing others into the background to add depth.
