Why are acrylic nails so in fashion now?

    Mar 7, 2023 by Ali · Leave a Comment

    Colab post

Acrylic nails were first created in the 1950s and since then have gained popularity and inspired innovation. Everyone from the average lady on the street to top-tier celebrities can be seen flaunting their acrylic nail sets both in real life and on social media. But why have they become such a beauty staple?

When it comes to designing your next set, the possibilities are endless. Most people have a preference when it comes to shape and length. Square nails can be altered to any length, with the shorter style tending to look more natural. If natural-looking is your style, oval-shaped acrylics could also be an option for you.

The designs on the nails themselves are completely up to you, your imagination and your technician. Pops of colour are on-trend for 2023, so you could either keep it subtle with orange French tips or go all out and have rainbow colours on each finger. When you decide it's time for a change, you can get them removed and start all over again!

    Longer lasting

Acrylic nail sets can last, with the proper care and maintenance, between 6-8 weeks. However, after 2-3 weeks you would need to visit your nail technician to have an infill done where your natural nails have started to grow.

One way to keep your acrylics long-lasting is to remember to treat them as gently as possible. Avoid harsh chemicals by wearing gloves when cleaning and try to dry them off as quickly as possible if they get wet.

    Protect your natural nails

Many find that their natural nails are prone to chipping or breaking, which can sometimes be painful. This means that all the other fingernails be filed down to match, losing the length that has been growing for a while.

Acrylics can help protect your natural nails by forming a barrier which can protect them from any impact damage that would normally break or rip your natural nails.

    Hide any imperfections

Nails can be easily damaged by your daily activities and accidents. Sometimes your nails can reflect your inner health by showing symptoms such as changing colour or shape. Even repeated use of nail polish can cause staining on the surface of the nails.

If you have damaged your nails previously, covering them with acrylics will hide them and restore your confidence when using your hands.

    Prevent nail biting

Nail biting is a habit that can be really hard to quit. Typically starting in childhood, it can cause pain where the nail becomes too short. Biting your nails can also cause infections when bacteria from your mouth and the environment are introduced under the skin.

By covering your nails with acrylics, the compulsion to bite may lessen and the acrylic will be too thick to bite off. This can allow time for your nails to recover to a healthier state.
