Your kids accidentally spilled candle wax on their clothes? Use these 3 tips to remove it!

    Dec 27, 2024 by Ali · Leave a Comment

It cannot be denied that candle wax stains on clothes are one of the hardest stains to remove, making it quite frustrating when you have it on your kids' clothes. However, such accidents can always happen, especially with kids that tend to be much more careless than adults. When such an unfortunate event happens, you don't have to scold your kids because it's actually quite easy to remove candle wax stains on clothes if you apply the following 3 tips.

A lit candle with a bright flame is melting, surrounded by darkness. Its wax drips onto a small plate beneath it.

Freeze and scrape off the wax

The first tip on how to remove candle wax from clothes is to freeze and scrape off the wax. To do this, you have to first place the stained clothes in the freezer for around 30 minutes or until the wax is completely hardened. Then, you can start scraping the wax off gently with a blunt tool such as a butter knife or the edge of a credit card. You have to be careful in doing this because if not, you may damage the fabric during the scraping.

Use heat to lift residual wax

The second tip to remove candle wax stains on your kids' clothes is to use heat to lift residual wax. This is because even after scraping the candle wax stain on the clothes, there should still be some residual wax. So, to start lifting it, you have to use heat that comes from a warm iron. To do this, you have to first put the stained area of the clothes between two sheets of absorbent paper. In this case, you can use paper towels or brown paper bags. Then, you can start ironing the paper with a warm iron (set the iron temperature to warm, not hot) so the heat from the iron can melt the residual wax. It will then be absorbed by the absorbent papers, leaving the fabric as clean as before it was stained by the candle wax.

Treat the stain with a stain remover product

Finally, the last tip to remove candle wax stains on your kids' clothes is to treat the stain with a stain remover product. If you have been figuring it, there's in fact a stain remover product specially made to remove hardened substances such as candle wax from clothes. You can buy such a product from the nearest home improvement store online or offline, so you shouldn't have any problem obtaining it. You only need to follow the manufacturer's instructions coming with the product, but it usually requires you to apply a sufficient amount of the solution to the stain, let it sit for several minutes, and then rinse it with water.
