When the cold weather starts to creep it in can be incredibly difficult to keep your house warm enough to kee you safe. Whether you're preparing for the inevitable increased heating costs or preventing the icy winds seeping through the walls - ensuring your house is nice and toasty during the cold weather is vital.

With that in mind, here are 5 ways to keep your house warm in the cold weather:

    • Make Sure Your Boiler Is In Good Working Condition

Having a boiler that is in good working condition is one of the best ways to make sure you're able to keep your house warm during the colder weather. Avoiding any issues will ensure your boiler is able to run efficiently and effectively, without any down time. If you do experience boiler issues during the cold weather, ensure you have a trusted engineer at hand.

    • Keep Your Heating On A Timer

Although people believe the longer you have your heating on, the better, it's actually much better to have your heating on a timer. This means you can set a timer for the times you're not in the house, only having the heating come on 30 minutes before you're due to arrive home. This will help keep your boiler in good working condition, as well as saving you money in the long run.

Using a timer also means you will be able to turn your heating off at night whilst you're asleep. If you're doing this make sure you set it to come back on before you wake up, otherwise you'll have a nasty, cold surprise when you get out of bed.

    • Wrap Up Warm And Keep Cosy With Blankets

If it's not quite cold enough to have your heating on full, try putting on a few extra laters and wrapping up in blankets. Wrapping up will mean you'll be able to keep the heating down low, especially as the extra comfort should help keep you that little bit warmer.

    • Invest In Under Floor Heating

Underfloor heating is a great way to warm up a house that has wooden florring throughout. Setting your underfloor heating to a timer will allow you to turn it on before you wake up, as well as before you get home from work. Not only will help keep your feet warm, but it will add to the overall warmth of the house.

    • Upgrade Your Windows To Double Glazing

If you're really struggling to keep your house warm, then it may be time to consider upgrading your windows to double glazing. Not only will it add value to your house, but it will help keep the warmth in, especially if your windows were considerably old beforehand. Additionally, you might also explore secondary glazing as a more affordable option to improve insulation without replacing the existing windows. If you're worried about the cost of upgrading, consider starting with just a couple of key rooms first.
