We all know the importance of being healthy. We try to pass this on to our children because we want them to grow up healthy and happy, but somewhere along the line, we start to neglect our health. As a parent, being healthy is paramount, but we shouldn't have to complicate matters. Let's show you some simple ways to keep yourself healthy as a parent now, and for years to come.

    Be Aware of "Creeping Conditions"

As we get older we can find ourselves prone to more ailments. Something like sleep apnea can have a significant impact on our ability to function in our day-to-day lives. A lot of people undergo treatment for sleep apnea with CPAP machines, but it's important that when you undergo any form of treatment, that you and take the relevant research yourself. If you have a look at the following link, www.rosenfeldinjurylawyers.com/cpap-lawsuit.html, you can see there are concerns with CPAP machines. This is one simple example, but when it comes to our health as we get older, there's a lot to be said for preventative measures. Always make sure that you know what you are more vulnerable to as you get older.

Understanding Your Ability to Deal With Stress

As we get older, we can find that we relax into things more. But not every parent is like this. Many people are feeling the pinch because of rising prices, and therefore, it could mean a few sleepless nights here and there because we may genuinely be concerned about how we can keep track of everything. One of the simplest solutions is to keep track of your abilities to deal with stress, rather than dealing with the situation as it comes. Having the right practices will make a massive difference in how you deal with stress, and it means you will be able to problem-solve more effectively. While there's an abundance of resources out there online, especially with regards to things like deep breathing, and visualisation, one of the best practices you can try before you go to sleep is progressive muscle relaxation. There is a guide to it on

https://www.verywellmind.com/reduce-tension-with-progressive-muscle-relaxation-3144608 which can show you how it gets to work. It's a very useful way to calm down, and it involves tensing and relaxing every muscle of your body. Because stress has an impact on our physical sensations, we can benefit from practising something like this. Of course, stress is a mental thing as well, but if you have a comprehensive approach to dealing with mind and body, you are going to stay on top of it.

    Connecting With Your Significant Other

Even if you are a single parent, you cannot underestimate the importance of connecting with someone else. It makes a big difference to your overall health, and it will alleviate stress. If you have a partner, sometimes having that opportunity when the children are in bed to have a meal together. Children can take up a lot of our time, and sometimes it's beneficial to know that the other parent is feeling the same way. You can live in the same home, but be like passing ships in the night. Connection is so important.

    Looking After Your Back

We can talk about physical health by exercising, but arguably the most prominent problem for any parent is lower back pain. All that bending, lifting, carrying, and moving in different directions can wreak havoc on your back. Learning to lift and carry your child safely is important, but also make sure that you are looking after your back by correcting your posture and ensuring any niggling pains are dealt with swiftly. You could be carrying a lot of tension in your lower back, and this is where something like a massage gun could be invaluable to releasing that physical tension.

Setting Aside a Small Amount of Time for Yourself

Self-care is so important but we feel that we've got to look after everyone else first. But it doesn't take long to undergo some self-care. It's about finding what suits your needs. It could be as simple as watching something funny on the internet, having some fresh air by yourself for 3 minutes, or just listening to some relaxing music. It's important to remember that self-care doesn't have to consist of clichéd components like meditation and mindfulness.

Hopefully, these are a few things that will make a big difference in keeping yourself healthy in the grand scheme of things. Health is different to each and every one of us, and this is why you've got to tackle numerous areas if we are to be healthy parents and set that example.
