Buying Make Up For Your Teenager

    May 3, 2018 · Modified: Mar 5, 2025 by Ali · 9 Comments

Although E is only 11 I feel like she has hit the teenage years already! For as long as I can remember she has watched me putting on my make up every day and for the last six months or so she's started poking around in my make up, putting it on herself at the weekends.

    I'm all for sharing, but...

A, we don't have the same skintone by any stretch so my foundation was completely the wrong colour for her

B, all my brushes would end up covered in really dark eyeshadow

C, I don't really want to be sharing my Charlotte Tilbuy palette with my 11 year old!

So, I figured if she wants to use some make up, I should guide her in the right direction with my three top tips

    • blend blend blend
    • less is more
    • go for a bold eye or bold lip but never both together

I also got her some make up of her own which she was very pleased with! I partnered up with JustMyLook and I got to choose some make up from their website which was great. They sell a variety of different beauty and make up products, from high end to the more budget conscious. I didn't choose anything too expensive for E because she's only wearing it sparingly at the weekends and there is plenty of time for her to develop an unhealthy make up habit so I wanted to keep the cost down for now!

So here's what I picked up for her first ever make up kit.

Firstly I wanted her to stop using my foundation but I knew that she didn't really need one for coverage, she just liked using one. So I picked up this Healthy Mix Primer from Bourjois for her. It just gives her that little bit of coverage she was looking for but looks really natural still.

Next I know that she likes a bit of contouring and blusher so this great trio of bronzer, blusher and highlighter from w7 cosmetics at JustMyLook is perfect, and a very reasonable price too!

Next I knew she loved using eyeshadow so I wanted to get her a palette with lots of colours and this one from MakeUp Revolution has lots of neutral colours and still gives her plenty of choice. She absolutely loves choosing which eyeshadow to wear now!

Of course a girl needs make up brushes and when I saw these rainbow brushes I knew that she would love them. They are from LaRoc at Just My Look.

Finally a neutral lip colour was in order. I didn't want her to wear anything too bold so I chose her this Carmex peach tinted sheer lip balm which gives her a bit of colour and a little gloss which is perfect for her age.

So there's E's first make up bag! She was really pleased with this little set and it gives her lots to experiment with whilst keeping it quite natural. She's set up a little beauty area in her bedroom now! I can't believe how quickly time has flown and that we are now at the point of buying her make up! I know that over the years she will be experimenting more and more with make up and fashion, like I did when I was younger. I just need to be prepared for it all!

Disclosure - we were gifted some of this make up from JustMyLook, all opinions are honest and my own.

I think it's better to get them their own make-up instead of letting them borrow yours. These are very lovely choices for teens. The brushes are so adorable! They're definitely going to love it!

I love the brushes, my daughter actually has some very similar to them. She was around the same age when she started getting into my stuff, now she's 13 and has a collection to rival my own x
