Back in January I resolved to be healthier this year. It started really well with me following pretty much a vegan diet throughout January. But I've been slacking in February and the cold wet weather and lots of work has meant that exercise has taken a back seat. I want to get back on the wagon really quickly so I'm going to share with you some changes I am going to make this month.
Exercise
I need to get back into the habit of exercise. It's hard to fit it in when it seems like there is so much else to do but I think it's great for my mind and body. So I'm going to exercise every day, alternating running with yoga or a bit of work on my cross trainer. 30 minutes each day is my goal.
Sugar
I need to dramatically cut down on my sugar intake. I did really well on this when I ate vegan. I'm not cutting it out completely but definitely avoiding it where I can.
Healthy Meals
I feel like I've really got stuck in a food rut lately. It's been difficult with the girls being so fussy and because bedtime with Little Boy has taken much longer now he's in a bed, by the end of the evening I really have no energy to cook. I need to get back into thorough meal planning and cooking ahead.
Eating out
We love eating out but it can be tempting to eat something naughty! I'm going to only try to stop in places that offer healthy food. Benugo in John Lewis in Cardiff is perfect because it has the best of both worlds - a really tasty and healthy menu but also some delicious sweet treats for that occasional indulgence.
What I really love about Benugo is their seasonal menu and great vegetarian options. Quite often I'll only find one healthy veggie option on the menu somewhere and after a while it can get a bit 'samey'. Benugo has a new spring menu out at the moment which includes some of the old favourites from my last visit with some great new ones.
I was invited there for lunch recently with some other local bloggers and once again I was so impressed with the quality of the food.
It reminded me that healthy food can be tasty and I'll be making lots of couscous and falafel wraps at home now too. My particular favourites are the Spring couscous and Middle Eastern wrap with spinach falafel. They serve a great selection of fruit and herbal teas too which I am loving at the moment.
I love knowing that there is somewhere nice to eat in Cardiff that is child friendly and serves lovely healthy food at a great price. The kids will love the cake too!
Have you carried on with your January health resolutions?
Disclosure - I was kindly invited back to Benugo in John Lewis Cardiff to try out their new spring menu. All opinions are honest and my own.
