Next year I want to do more travelling. Now that the children are slightly older I feel that family city breaks are a much more viable option for us and there are so many places that I want to take them! Here are five family friendly city breaks I want to take in 2020.
Geneva
Switzerland is an absolute dream destination of mine, and not just for skiing. I've heard it is so beautiful there and Geneva is a great place to take a city break. There is lots for the children to see there and if they aren't swayed by the home of real Swiss chocolate maybe some of these things will be a highlight of a visit there. There of course is Lake Geneva, a must see landmark and you can also relax here, take part in watersports or just take in the sights.
There are also lots of parks and museums which are great for children and they have some good quality serviced accommodation in Geneva too which is the perfect base for a family trip.
Berlin
I have been desperate to take my family to Berlin after I visited there with some girlfriends a few years ago. There is so much history in Berlin, the Holocaust museum is haunting and Checkpoint Charlie and the Berlin Wall were other places that really resonated with me. There really isn't a better way to get the feel for the horror of the history of Berlin than visiting it yourself. Outside of that the food is also fantastic, with so many nice places to eat and cute little modern shops, I know that this is really high on my list of places I want to visit next year.
London
Closer to home is a trip that I really want to make happen - a family trip to London. I visit most years with one of the girls and a couple of years ago we visited as a family and I'd really like to do that again. There is so much to do in London for children, there are brilliant shops like Harrods and Hamleys and the Westfield Centre. There is Kidzania, great parks and some epic museums, many of which are free to visit. If you stay somewhere central like in these serviced apartments in Queens Gate it is easy to navigate your way around the city on public transport, be that on the bus or underground, just grab yourself an Oyster card or swipe your contactless bank card and off you go!
Amsterdam
I feel like everyone has been to Amsterdam except me! I think it's one of those places that you have to tick off your list, and while it seems like a hen and stag do destination there is plenty of family friendly things to see there. I would go on a canal bank walk, see Anne Frank's house and ride a bike in the Vondelpark. There is also a great science museum and a zoo so there is lots to keep children of all ages entertained.
Dublin
Can you believe that I have never been to Ireland? It's been on my bucket list for ages and I'd love to tick it off next year! You can get very reasonable flights over there from the UK and it would be fantastic to be able to show the children what Ireland is like, especially as we have friends who are originally from there. Highlights in Dublin for children I think would be the National Botanic Gardens and Dublin Zoo.
I'm really getting itchy feet for travelling after writing this post! Do you have any city breaks planned for the near future? I'd love to hear about them.
