Very few of us could have anticipated how 2020 would turn out for us. At the start of the year, many of us had made all sorts of plans for the following twelve months. We’d booked holidays and trips. We’d planned concerts and music festivals. We’d considered visiting museums, art galleries, theatres. Then we would have expected to fit in all of our usual enjoyable activities, like heading to the cinema, going out for meals and more. But all of this got turned on its head by the rapid rise and spread of coronavirus and Covid-19 across the world. All sorts of tragedies and difficult situations have resulted from this. People have lost their lives, people have lost loved ones and people have lost their work. So, we don’t want to underemphasise that being a little bored isn’t the worst thing to have happened over the past few months. But, all the same, many of us have grown extremely bored with little to do while confining ourselves to our own homes to minimise contact with others and minimise transmission rates. This, unlike other problems, is something that you may be able to do something about yourself though! Adding a few fun home additions to your living space can keep you and your family entertaining and keep everyone’s chins up! Here are a few you might want to consider!
A Hot Tub
Hot tubs are a luxury purchase, but if you’ve saved money from not going on holiday, not going out and not doing a whole lot since March, it could easily be a justified investment. Having a hot tub in your home gives everyone a fun space to chat with each other outside of your usual living space. Plus, hot tubs are extremely relaxing, allowing you to sink in, kick back and relax during these stressful times.
A Cinema Room
Got a spare room? Or are you willing to rearrange your lounge for an evening? If so, why not create a cinema room? With actual cinemas still closed in most parts of the country, many of us are missing the big screen and the popcorn experience. Clear some space, make sure there are plenty of comfy seats and consider investing in a projector and projector screen. These can be found relatively low cost nowadays and you’ll be able to enjoy a more real cinema experience with your family. Plus, you can stock up on popcorn and sugar free fizzy drinks to add to the authenticity of the experience!
A Games Room
If you have a spare room, or space in your garage, an alternative is to create a games room. This will provide endless fun for your family and can be designed according to your family’s preferences. If the room is big enough, you could consider table tennis or a pool table. You could simply throw a few bean bags down, shift a TV into the room and plug in consoles for your family to enjoy playing. You could go all out and invest in old school arcade games or pinball machines. The options are endless and you can spend as much or as little as you want or as you have available on this fun project.
A Home Bar
Bars have been closed for a while and those that have opened back up often have limited availability. You may also be reluctant to head back into these spaces, despite the social distancing measures being implemented. So, why not set up a home bar of your own? This sounds like a complex venture, but it could be pretty simple. There are any premade home bars online that you can have delivered and simply set up in your chosen space. Your bar doesn’t necessarily even have to have alcohol stored behind it. You could make it kid friendly and have fun making mocktails, slushies or other child friendly drinks that will bring a smile to your little ones’ faces. Having a bar in your home to visit will create a sense of occasion without anyone having to venture outside. For extra fun, get your kids to come up with menus in an arts and crafts project that will keep them occupied for a while too!
Of course, what will best suit your family will largely fall down to your individual family’s wants and needs. But hopefully, some of the above ideas and suggestions will help to get the ball rolling and you’ll have some entertaining home additions before you know it!
