I absolutely love a coffee table - they are the perfect addition to a living room and they are functional and aesthetic - they make a home feel more stylish and cosy and generally more 'put together'. There are so many different coffee tables to choose from today though so you probably need to really think about which is the best coffee table for you - here is some guidance you might find useful.
Consider Your Space
The first thing to consider is the space that your coffee table will be going into. If you have a small space you don't want to clutter it up with a huge coffee table. Similarly if you have a huge room you can have a lovely big coffee table and make a real feature of it. Space wise, you want to be able to walk around the table, and still reach it from a chair or sofa. If you haven't got a lot of space you could always use an end table as a coffee table.
What should my coffee table me made of?
Coffee tables come made in all sort of materials so choosing which one is best for you depends on many factors. If you have children you will want to stay away from glass coffee tables and choose something sturdy and easy to clean like wood veneer or even plastic. If you don't have these concerns then you can opt for a wooden table, glass or even marble.
Colour
The colour you choose for your coffee table will depend upon the style and colour scheme of your home. In our living room we have a large white coffee table and it really helps to brighten the room up and help it feel like a bigger space. If you are looking to create a cosy space you might want to look at darker coloured coffee tables.
Functionality
A coffee table is for more than resting your cuppa on! I love to stack books on our coffee table and mix them up every now and again. I think that the books that you choose to display on your coffee table make a statement about you and what you are interested in. I love looking at what other books other people are reading when I go to their homes. Our coffee table also has an extra shelf underneath where I store magazines that I have yet to read. If you were in need of extra storage you could buy a lift top coffee table which has clever inbuilt storage.
I also like to display a vase of flowers or a plant on our coffee table - I think a bit of greenery brightens up the place and makes it more homely. Of course if you have young children you might want to give the vase of flowers a miss and use the table top for puzzles and games - coffee tables are a great height for toddlers.
Style
Your coffee table of choice can really help to show off your individual style. You can get a modern coffee, unique coffee tables, glamorous coffee tables or rustic or industrial style coffee tables - whatever style you choose should reflect your personality and style.
