We are lucky to have a reasonably sized front garden, however we don't have much time to spend making it look good and gardening which is why I have opted for a low maintenance look. In this blog post I am going to help you to put together your own low maintenance front garden this spring.
Garden lighting
Garden lighting is a crucial element of outdoor design, adding an enchanting and functional touch to any garden space. Whether you have a cozy courtyard, a sprawling lawn, or a tranquil terrace, well-placed garden lighting can transform your outdoor space into a magical oasis that can be enjoyed day and night.
From string lights twinkling overhead to path lights casting a warm glow along walkways, garden lighting creates a welcoming ambiance, enhances safety and security, and highlights the natural beauty of your plants and landscape features.
I recently placed some freestanding solar lanterns on our porch area and they look fantastic. Not only do they look really great in the daytime, but at night they give out a lovely glow, and the best bit is that they are solar powered lights so they have no running costs.
I also love fairy lights and they can be used to mark off a particular space such as an eating corner or hot tub area. I have draped fairy lights along the ivy trellis on the back wall of our garden and I have also got some mini lights around our faux flower wreath.
Outdoor Rugs
Outdoor rugs are a versatile and stylish addition to any outdoor living space. These rugs are specially designed to withstand the elements, making them ideal for patios, decks, porches, and other outdoor areas.
Outdoor rugs are made from durable materials that are resistant to moisture, mold, mildew, and fading, ensuring they can withstand exposure to sun, rain, and other outdoor elements without losing their beauty or functionality.
With a wide variety of colours, patterns, and textures available, outdoor rugs can effortlessly enhance the aesthetics of your outdoor space, adding warmth, comfort, and personality. They can define seating or dining areas, provide a soft surface for bare feet, and tie together your outdoor furniture and decor. I have an outdoor rug in the front garden and it really makes the area look put together.
Faux Plants
Faux plants, also known as artificial plants, can be a practical and versatile option for incorporating greenery into your garden. While live plants are often preferred for their natural beauty and benefits, faux plants offer unique advantages in certain situations.
Faux plants require minimal maintenance, as they do not need watering, pruning, or fertilizing, making them an ideal choice for low-maintenance gardens or areas where live plants may not thrive due to lack of sunlight, extreme weather conditions, or other environmental factors.
Faux plants are also a viable option for those with allergies or sensitivities to pollen or other allergens. Additionally, faux plants can be used to create a year-round green aesthetic, even in regions with harsh winters. With advancements in technology, high-quality faux plants can closely mimic the appearance of live plants, providing a realistic and aesthetically pleasing alternative.
When used strategically and combined with live plants, faux plants can add texture, colour, and visual interest to your garden, creating a lush and inviting outdoor space that requires minimal upkeep - which is a godsend for people like me! Here is the beautiful faux wreath I got from Lights 4 Fun - it's so pretty and also robust and will last year upon year.
Furniture
If you have the space, some garden furniture will make the most of your outdoor space and give you somewhere to sit in the sunshine. Ever since the pandemic, outdoor space has felt essential. In our front garden we have a small table and chairs so we can hang out with friends who pop over for coffee or we can relax and chat while someone does some garden maintenance or the children play.
If you choose rattan furniture it holds up really well outside all year round and will look good for years to come. Make sure that you bring any cushions and seat pads inside overnight and when it rains and cover your table and chairs in the winter to protect them.
