One of the best things about summer is the time that we get to devote to travel. Whether you are travelling the world or just the country that you live in, you will need to pack for your journey. Travelling in the summer is very different from travelling in the winter and you will need specific things - here are my must haves for summer travel.

Orthotic Sandals
When it comes to summer travel, a good pair of sandals is essential, especially for those long days of exploring new destinations. Women's orthotic sandals are a perfect choice as they combine comfort and support, ensuring your feet remain pain-free throughout your adventures. Orthotic sandals for women are designed to provide the necessary arch support and cushioning, reducing the strain on your feet and preventing discomfort. For a great selection of stylish and supportive options, check out this collection of orthotic sandals.
A Suitcase / Bag
You want to be able to move around easily when you have your luggage so I would recommend a lightweight hard shell suitcase on wheels with an integrated lock for security. A hard shell suitcase works really well to protect your belongings and will withstand knocking about in baggage control. Wheels mean that you will be able to move it easily between locations. I really like this hard shell case available on Amazon - if you get one in a bright colour it is easier to recognise on the baggage carousel or when getting off the train or coach.
If you are going for a shorter distance or stay, a lightweight bag might be all you need. I love this foldable duffle bag from Trendhim.
It is very lightweight and spacious and has a large pocked on the inside and two popper pockets on each end. The best thing about this bag is that it can be folded down small into it's own bag.
I always pack this bag in my suitcase if I'm going for a longer trip as it's really useful to have the extra space available for if you have a lot of shopping to bring back from your travels.
Toiletries
Obviously you will want to pack all your usual toiletries such as toothpaste and a toothbrush but there are some specific must haves for summer specific too...
- Suncream - this is really important if you are travelling to somewhere hot and sunny. It is usually cheaper to buy suncream in the UK and you will know what brand suits your skin so stock up at home and take it with you. Every day, no matter what the weather, I always wear sunscreen on my face too. I love Alumier Sheer Hydration and my skin loves it too!
- Aftersun - another must have in my toiletries bag in the summer is aftersun. It doesn't have to be a specific aftersun, just a thick, moisturising lotion will do. Opt for something gentle on the skin if you are planning to tan.
- Deodorant - another absolute travel must! I have been loving Wild natural deodorants and they have served me well even through the summer heatwave here in the UK! They even do small sizes so you can pop one in your handbag for a day out and re-apply as needed.
Toiletries bag
You will need a decent toiletries bag to keep everything in. I recently got sent the Khaki Finch waxed canvas wash bag from Trendhim and it is the perfect size - long enough for bottles but easy to get at everything. It is made out of waxed canvas that is water resistant and closes with a chunky zip.
Waterproof phone case
If you are travelling and likely to visit the pool or sea then investing a few pounds in a waterproof phone pouch is a good idea. It means that you can keep your phone with you while you swim so you don't need to worry about it being stolen and also you can get some great photos in the sea or pool.
Camera
Again, a camera is one of the must haves for summer, and in the winter too actually! Make sure that you pack it safely in it's case and pack a spare battery, battery charger and plenty of memory cards. I like to take my Canon Powershot G5 X Mark II for taking video and my Canon DSLR with a 50mm lens for taking photos.

Travel documents
This sounds obvious but you'd be surprised how many people turn up at the airport without their passport or at their hotel without their booking information. Make sure that you have these documents with you...
- passport
- hotel booking information
- covid vaccination info
- visa (if needed)
- insurance documents
- TEFL Certificate (if required)
- bank phone numbers
Medication
If you have a medical condition you will need to pack enough to take with you, and to be safe I would always pack a week more than you need, in case you get stuck and can't get home on time. Better safe than sorry as they say! Depending upon where you are visiting there are some other medications it might be worth taking with you.
- Allergy tablets
- Bite and sting cream
- Paracetamol
- Regular medication
- Inhalers / epipens
- Plasters / antiseptic spray
Clothing
The best thing about packing for travel in the summer is that the clothes are so much lighter and take up much less space in your bag. In addition to your must haves for summer clothes make sure to also pack...
- a hat
- swimwear
- cover-up
- beach bag
- good quality sandals (I love Saltwater sandals)
- a jumper / cardigan for cool evenings
- lightweight pack-a-mac for showers

Travel Itinery
If you are like me and you have researched the area that you are visiting and you have a list of places you would like to see / how to get there / key info etc. make sure to print it out and take it with you so that you can reference it while you are there. Depending on where you are visiting you might not have internet signal so this could be really important to take that information with you.
Chargers and Plugs
Last and not least, don't forget to take those all important cables and chargers with you. You will want chargers for your phone and camera and maybe your watch if you have a smart watch. You might also need a plug adaptor if you aren't visiting the same country so that you can convert the power source.
