Optimise Your Bedroom For Better Sleep With These 4 Tips

Your bedroom is your go-to place to unwind after a busy day. However, it may sometimes be difficult to fall asleep due to factors such as stress, insomnia, distractions, etc. Lack of quality sleep can adversely affect your health, making it essential for you to observe good sleep hygiene and create a relaxing environment that will improve the quality of your sleep. Are you wondering how to make your bedroom more relaxing for better sleep? Here are some tips worth considering.

    1. Suppress the noise with the right carpet flooring

While some people rely on specific sounds to aid sleep, noise, in general, is a massive sleep deterrent. The easier it is for outside noise to infiltrate your bedroom, the more difficult it may be to get some shut-eye.

One way to suppress noise is to install the right carpet flooring. You can opt for your preferred colour,  such as a grey carpet, which can absorb sound and create a peaceful atmosphere where you’d love to sleep. This flooring option also comes with the added benefit of giving your bedroom a cosy feel which will help make you more comfortable to relax. You can also add noise-cancelling headphones or a pair of earplugs to block other noise sources.

    1. Calm your nerves with an indoor plant

An indoor plant in your bedroom does more than beautify your room. Some indoor plants, especially fragrant plants like lavender, gardenia, and jasmine, have been proven to calm the nerves and induce sleep. Indoor plants can also improve your bedroom air quality by exchanging carbon dioxide with oxygen, creating a refreshing environment where you can comfortably sleep.

    1. Block out harsh light with curtains

According to experts, light reflecting from outside can impact your sleep quality. Such light can come from direct sunlight, headlights from vehicles, streetlights, etc., and it's important to keep them out of your bedroom when it’s time to sleep.

Installing curtains over your windows is one of the easiest ways to keep your bedroom dark regardless of the harsh light outside. You can also invest in a face mask as an extra layer of protection from harsh light to create the right setting for sleep. However, if you need to sleep with your light on, invest in dimmer lights or bedside lamps with a gentle glow.

    1. Add a lavender candle for extra relaxation

If an indoor fragrant plant isn't an option for you, consider lighting up a lavender candle instead. Studies reveal that lavender can help put you in a more relaxed state by decreasing your blood pressure, heart rate, and skin temperature. One of the cheapest ways to have lavender fragrance wafting in your bedroom is to light a lavender-scented candle. For extra effect, you can also consider washing your bed sheets with lavender-scented soap or detergent.

Quality sleep requires being intentional about your sleep routine and finding ways to create the perfect atmosphere to help you unwind. Applying the tips above can help you optimise your bedroom for better sleep.
